Dr. Jeff Berkley is the CEO, Chairman and Founder of Mimic Technologies. Jeff brings decades of experience in the mathematics, engineering and healthcare disciplines focused on technology and virtual reality applications.
Jeff has applied his knowledge of haptic feedback and continuum mechanic-based tissue modeling to surgery simulation. He is a leader in the fields of haptics, surgery simulation and real-time finite element modeling. He is well known as a thought leader through his speaking engagements at academic settings and in print. He has served as a reviewer and authored articles for journals including IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Modeling, Virtual Reality and Electronic Journal of Haptics Research and Medical Imaging.
Jeff has also served as an affiliate assistant professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Washington, where he taught software development for virtual reality applications. He advanced his real-time algorithms while receiving his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington’s Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HIT Lab), one of the world’s premier virtual reality labs. He obtained his MS in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University.
Byron G. Smith, MBA – Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer
Byron is a finance executive specializing in increasing corporate profitability and performance by building strong finance teams that are trusted business partners to the operations they support. His background includes experience in computing (Intel, Cray), medical devices (Spacelabs), and biotechnology. In addition, Byron has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
Seth joined Mimic in 2010. He brings significant knowledge in real time simulation, geometric algorithms, data analysis and real-time sensor integration. Seth has over 20 years of software development and hardware design experience in both professional and academic settings. More recently Seth has taken the role of CTO and oversees all of Mimic’s engineering teams and technology development.
Seth has published scholarly articles in sources including the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, ACM Siggraph and the ACM Symposium on Solid Modeling and Applications. Prior to joining Mimic, Seth contributed to motion compression algorithms and video game technology at Havok and created efficient techniques for improving the layout of integrated circuits at Intel.
Chris started working with Mimic in 2014. He has 30 years experience in Sales & Marketing in the IT & healthcare business. Most recently he has held Senior Marketing roles with Intuitive Surgical and Boston Scientific in the US & Europe where among his responsibilities was the development of their online interactions. Chris’s key areas of expertise include: Training | Communications| Marketing | Strategy Development | Digital Infrastructure | e-Business | e-Commerce | General Management.
Chris holds Bachelor of Science from University College London and PGCE from St Edmund’s Hall Oxford University
Todd manages Mimic Medical Education & Development (MimicMED) located at the Florida Hospital Nicholson Center and in addition he leads education and training for Mimic Technologies as well as supporting research and product development. Todd also leads MimicMED Consultancy Services, which focus on assisting institutions to deliver high quality Robotic Surgery Programs that meets their institutional goals as well as continuing to consult on robotic surgical training, telesurgery, and operating room & simulation center IT integration.
Following his 23-year service in the U.S. Navy, Todd was the Program Manager and Nursing Supervisor for the Telerobotics & Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland where he oversaw and managed all robotic surgery technology related projects, including program budgeting, grant oversight, acquisitions, personnel management, training, research, and clinical practice.
Todd is a Registered Nurse, has his Master of Science Degree in Information Technology, and is a Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR), and is a member of the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses.
