Maestro AR Partial Nephrectomy Module
Maestro AR for Partial Nephrectomy is an interactive educational tool developed in collaboration with Inderbir S. Gill, MD and Andrew J. Hung, MD, USC Keck School of Medicine, exclusively available on the dV-Trainer®.
The module presents the user with a 3D learning environment, combining footage from an actual case performed by Dr. Gill with Mimic’s proven MSim™ simulation platform. Using the dV-Trainer, trainees manipulate virtual 3D robotic instruments to interact with anatomical regions within the augmented 3D surgical video footage.
Maestro AR for Partial Nephrectomy takes trainees through the following steps:
1. Colon mobilization
2. Kocherization of duodenum
3. Hilar dissection
4. Completion of kidney mobilization
5. Tumor excision and renorrhaphy
At periodic intervals, trainees must answer multiple choice questions in order to proceed through the module. Audio narration from Dr. Gill provides guidance through all five steps of the procedure.
Maestro AR includes an embedded renorrhaphy skills development exercise designed to match the needle pattern used in this procedure. This exercise is exclusive to Maestro AR and the dV-Trainer.
As with all other Mimic simulation exercises, Maestro AR uses Mimic’s industry standard MScore™ performance evaluation system.
